My decision to run again
Last May I was elected to fill the unexpired term for Waco ISD’s at-large school board seat. The experience has not been without its challenges and difficulties, but overall serving on the school board has been incredibly rewarding. As a former WISD classroom teacher and parent with four children in WISD schools, I have been grateful for the opportunity to continue to be a part of WISD’s success.
This past year we were able to break ground on the new campus for G.W. Carver Middle School, a school that has served WISD students since 1956. We also broke ground on the new Waco High School. Last month, just before Christmas, we sent out $2.8 million in retention bonuses to the teachers in our district. We recently broke ground on the new Tennyson Middle School and we will soon break ground on the new Kendrick Elementary and the renovation of South Waco Elementary. While I would love to take credit for all these things, serving on the school board means being a small part of a larger group of people working to ensure student success.
Because this work is so important to me, and because I believe we still have a lot of work to do, on January 18th I filed to run again for the at-large school board seat. This time for the full 3 year term. I made sure that my name was the first one submitted because for me, leadership means being the first one who volunteers to help. My hope is that with your support we can continue towards our goals of providing our students with the best education possible, in the best schools, with the best teachers.
